“Dad: We are closer through distance.” The Best Six-Word Memoirs Of The Week

Best Six (June7-June13)-01-01-01-01

Fatherhood wears many faces. This week, our community of writers described the nuances of these men known as Dad. Your Sixes covered the spectrum, from wonderful fathers (“Real dads re-learn calculus with you.”) to relationships that are less then perfect (“Dad: We are closer through distance.”) and dads who are are determined to keep up with the times (“My dad turned seventy-two. Takes selfie.”). As Father’s Day approaches, there is no better time to honor and reflect on our dads. At their best (or not), fathers help us become who we are. –Gilmarie Brioso

Most Fortunate: “Lucky me! I have two Dads!” –jl333

Toughest Narrative Arc: “Dad was cactusman, never shedding tears.” –notyouraveragegirl

Most Modern: “My dad turned seventy-two. Takes selfie.” –jermball30

Most Admired: “Wheelchair-bound Dad ran house, raised kids.” –rsqdogsmom

Most Honest: “Dad: We are closer through distance.” –ton

Most Dedicated: “Real dads re-learn calculus with you.” –Bookndz

Plus! If you are in New York City on Monday (June 16), join us for “The Joke Is on Six Words” at The PIT! There’ll be fun, there’ll be laughs, and there’ll be prizes. We hope to see you there!
