About Six in the City: Columbus
Since 2006, Six-Word Memoirs (sixwordmemoirs.com), a project of SMITH Magazine (smithmag.net), has helped more than one million people tell moving and insightful stories about their lives—six words at a time.
Six-Word Memoirs is excited to announce Six in the City (SITC), a program that brings Six-Word Memoirs to the communities and citizens of different cities. Six-Word creator Larry Smith moved to Columbus, Ohio in early 2015 and was immediately struck by the city’s enthusiasm, community, and openness to starting conversations about who this city is and where it’s going. With that in mind, Six in the City makes its debut in Columbus. At arts festivals, inside classrooms and community centers, in public spaces and company meetings, through writing, art, and song, Six in the City will engage and connect the people of Columbus, a citizenry perfectly poised to use this simple form of self-expression to tell their story and seek a collective identity. Along the way, Six in the City will spark thousands of conversations about the place we live.
